A remarkable sea life
The Gulf of Kalloni maintains an incredible marine life rich in species and quantities. It is a great refuge for fish, molluscs, crustaceans and especially shellfish. The reason for this is the large quantities of phytoplankton as well as its special geomorphological conditions. At the same time, however, it requires special and sustainable management.
There is a large number of families that make their living from fishing and shellfishing and they form a local economy. Every year many quantities of shellfish are exported abroad, making shellfish one of the most special species in the area.
